It seems that PHP is losing popularity, but it isn't. PHP is a mature language. It's users know what they want from it and are busy doing it (myself included).
Of course, I am as enthusiastic about other technologies as anyone else is. Go, for example, is my favorite language. Python is great, but I'm used to curly braces, so, for the things I do, Python is not needed.
JavaScript can be daunting. At my age, I try to stay away as much as I can. It changes too fast and gives me stress trying to redo what I had redone a few months ago.
But I'm deviating from the topic, sorry!
PHP 7 is a different animal than PHP 4, or even 5. There is no PHP 6.
The most popular server-side language as of today is still PHP with 78.9% popularity.
Hey, languages are things we use for creating stuff. Popularity is just a feeling and it has nothing to do with reality.
PHP may not be pop, but it is the real thing.
Addendum
Off the radar, PHP is no longer just a great scripting language for websites; it's now a powerful general-purpose programming language. Just do a little digging to discover what PHP can now do.

Yes, people are learning new stuff, but PHP is also evolving.

Node.js is a younger technology and is still less commonly used than PHP, it is already used by big enterprises like eBay, Netflix and Yahoo, as well as a range of successful startups, including Trello. https://itechcraft.com/node-js/ being a versatile solution is usable on a wide range of devices. Node is great for developing highly scalable and interactive server-side solutions.
