If Google keeps up the aggression and the diversity of innovation which they exhibit now.
With diverse acquisitions like YouTube, Android, Nest, Boston Dynamics the search giant is setting up it's a portfolio to take over the world. On an average, Google is taking over more than one company per week since 2010. That says a lot about the control they have over the future. Should the trend continue their market cap should be touching a trillion dollar mark in less than 10 years time. (Yeah! All that money from just selling ads, it's crazy. Right?)At the same time, if Microsoft keeps struggling with the whole mobile computing and legacy operating system integration like they are doing now.
This mammoth organization is going to be bleeding in 6-7 years of time. Let's also keep in mind that Microsoft has no monopoly in any of the product/services it offers. (for business users it does but there are vicious rivals eating up the market share every day). To make it worse, Microsoft is forced to offer the most popular office suite for free to Android users and they have also made a couple more services open sourced which they never had to do in the past. Even though that was a rigid strategy it seemed to be working for them because it was generating substantial revenue.
Finally, if Google continues the pace for a decade (which they are more than likely to do with all the extra cash in hand) and if Microsoft is as lost as it is today, we can expect an acquisition.
