Jack Dorsey of Twitter.
Questionable:
Of course, any of them could be fired unexpectedly over a personal scandal.
Let's go down the list:
Safe:- Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Marc Benioff, Reed Hastings, Larry Page: founders, nearly untouchable
- Satya Nadella: tripled Microsoft stock price, reformed culture, well liked by employees
- Tim Cook: blessed by Jobs, has steadily overseen continued success, well liked by employees
- Dara Khosrowshahi: too new in the role to get fired. Is popular and has addressed cultural issues and maintained strong business performance.
- Elon Musk: has repeatedly delivered the seemingly impossible. Crazy public image is positive for Tesla, neutral for SpaceX. Has fanatic loyalists. He himself may get sued but that’s not his shareholders’ problem.
Questionable:
- Jack Dorsey: founder, but already fired once. Twitter is struggling with political controversy and toxicity and hasn't been able to branch out, and its stock has been fairly stagnant over the last couple of years.
- Sundar Pichai: GOOG is way up. Strategy and execution are both strong. However, Google has been rocked by political and ethical controversies. One more big problem might be enough to sink him. In the end, a company doing poorly is more likely to fire its CEO than one doing well. Google's scandals don't seem to have affected its rising stock price and earnings, while Twitter has not had the same financial success. Therefore Dorsey is more at risk than Pichai.
Of course, any of them could be fired unexpectedly over a personal scandal.
